Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 5, 2025
EG Gear is owned and operated by Nalster LLC (a California limited liability company). This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Summary
- We collect your email and password to create and secure your account and to run the comments system.
- We log IP address and basic device info to protect the site (security, spam, and abuse prevention).
- We do not use cookies or similar trackers on our site today.
- We do not send marketing emails, do not run targeted advertising, and do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral ads.
- We use Amazon affiliate links. When you click one, Amazon may use its own identifiers; we disclose: “As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.”
- If you delete your account, your past comments remain but are anonymized (author name removed); we retain minimal logs for site security.
- You can request to access, correct, or delete your data at any time via /contact.
- Our site is for ages 13+; we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
What we collect
Account & profile
Email, username, and password (stored as a salted, one-way hash). Optional profile fields you add (e.g., display name or avatar).
Content you submit
Comments and messages you post or send to us (public comments are visible to others).
Technical & security data
IP address, timestamps, user-agent, referrer, and pages requested; used for security, spam/abuse prevention, and to operate the service.
Affiliate click context
When you click a product link that goes to a retailer (e.g., Amazon), we record that an outbound click occurred. The retailer’s site handles any further data under its own policy. Required disclosure: As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
We do not collect sensitive personal information.
Cookies and similar technologies
We do not set cookies or similar identifiers on your device and we do not use pixels or cross-site trackers on our pages. Because we don’t set non-essential cookies, you won’t see a cookie banner here. If you follow an Amazon link, that retailer may use its own cookies/identifiers under its policies.
How we use information
- Provide and secure the service: account login, comments, spam/abuse prevention, troubleshooting.
- Operate retailer links: attribute outbound clicks and measure aggregate performance (no personalized ad profiles).
- Communicate with you: account-related messages and responses to requests (no marketing newsletters).
What we do not do
- No targeted or personalized advertising.
- No marketing emails.
- No sale or “sharing” of personal information as defined by California law.
When we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share limited data with:
- Service providers that help run the site (e.g., hosting/security/email); they act under contract and may only use data to provide services to us.
- Retailers you choose to visit by clicking our product links (e.g., Amazon); your use of those sites is governed by their policies.
- Legal needs when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of our service.
Affiliate disclosure
EG Gear participates in the Amazon Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. This disclosure appears site-wide and near relevant links.
Data retention & deletion
- Accounts: kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we anonymize authorship on past comments (e.g., display “Anonymous”) and retain minimal records necessary for security, troubleshooting, or legal obligations.
- Security logs: retained for a limited period necessary to detect, investigate, and prevent abuse.
- Backups: retained for continuity and securely cycled.
Your rights
All users: request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data via /contact.
California and certain U.S. states: you may have rights to access, delete, correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, but we honor applicable rights requests.
EU/UK visitors (GDPR): you may have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Our legal bases are contract (to provide your account/comments) and legitimate interests (security and site reliability).
We will verify requests and respond as required by law.
Children’s privacy
Our site is intended for audiences 13+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can remove it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect account data and site operations. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
International transfers
We may process data in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate. Where required, we apply appropriate safeguards.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. For significant changes, we may provide an on-site notice.
